Started with a pattern nobody was fixing.
Nik Kulas spent years working across residential builds and renovations around Melbourne. Hundreds of homes. And on nearly every job, the same thing. External doors rotting from the bottom up. Paint blistering. MDF swelling. Frames going soft.
Homeowners would get someone out to repair it. Sand it back, fill it, repaint. Twelve months later, same spot, same problem. Money gone.
The issue wasn’t the painter. It wasn’t the homeowner forgetting to maintain it. It was the door itself. Standard hollow-core and MDF doors aren’t built for exposed positions. They never were. But builders keep fitting them because that’s what gets supplied.
General builders treat doors as a small part of a bigger job. They don’t think about orientation, exposure, or what happens to that bottom edge when rain pools against the threshold for three winters straight. Why would they? They’ve got a whole house to build.
So Nik went the other direction. One trade. Entrance doors. Nothing else.
Right product for the position. Right installation method. Full supply and install so there’s no gap between who sold the door and who hung it. If something’s wrong, there’s one phone number to call.
That focus is what led to StormBloc™, a door system built from scratch because he was tired of watching the same failure play out on every job, in the same spot, on door after door across Melbourne’s suburbs.

Our manufacturing partners operate out of a purpose-built workshop at 7 Nelson St, Moorabbin. Architectural doors, pivot doors, custom entrance components. All made here.
StormBloc™ is engineered and assembled through this partnership. The Colorbond® skins, the RotGuard™ perimeter framing, the engineered composite core. It’s all fabricated locally.
Nothing gets outsourced overseas. No container shipments from a factory you’ll never see. Local specialist manufacturing, with a team that understands Melbourne conditions because they live in them.
When we say “custom,” we mean it literally. Measured on site, built to order, fitted by the same crew that took the measurements.
The StormBloc™ Story
Built because nothing else worked.
Every external door failure Nik saw had the same root cause. Moisture wicking up through the bottom edge. Timber soaking it in. Paint can’t stop it. Sealant slows it down for a bit. Composite doors crack and fade under UV.
None of the existing options solved the actual problem. So StormBloc™ was engineered from scratch. Colorbond steel faces that don’t need repainting. A RotGuard™ treated pine perimeter that seals the bottom edge before the door ever leaves the workshop. An engineered composite core that won’t swell or warp.
It’s now the default recommendation for any door in an exposed position. North-facing entries copping full sun. South-facing rears with no awning. Laundry doors sitting in damp passageways. The positions where standard doors have a two-year lifespan at best.

Full supply and install across the whole area. Site measures and installations are handled by our team directly. Not subcontracted out to whoever’s available that week.
