We fitted a custom vertical batten door in treated pine, built to the specific dimensions of the opening. Treated pine is the right call when the final finish is paint. It’s stable, easy to machine, and takes paint without the prep complications of some other species. The vertical batten profile gives the door a clean, contemporary face.
The sidelight beside the door is narrow with ribbed glass — it lets light into the entry without giving a clear view from the street. The ribbed texture diffuses what’s visible through the glass while still brightening the interior of the entry hall. It’s a practical choice that also reads better than a frosted panel when there’s some texture involved.
The jamb is KD hardwood — kiln-dried, dimensionally stable, no movement after install. The whole entrance was built and fitted as a complete unit, not assembled from separate parts. Our front door replacement projects include everything from the frame out, so the entry is complete and ready for paint on the day we leave.
