We built a custom Vic Ash batten door with a vertical batten profile and a flat panel integrated into the design for the hardware mounting point. Vic Ash is a tight-grained Australian hardwood — stable, strong, and it finishes beautifully when the owners are ready to oil or stain it. The vertical battens give the door a clean, modern profile that reads well on a renovated home.
The hardware panel sits flush with the batten face. No protruding box, no break in the surface — the pull handle and deadbolt mount directly into the panel, and it disappears into the door design. The pull handle is matte black. The lock is a Lockwood Paradigm deadbolt — a solid, reliable cylinder lock that’s a standard choice on custom timber entries.
The jamb is Vic Ash KD hardwood — matching material to the door, kiln-dried for stability. External trims and internal architraves were fitted on both sides of the opening. The door was installed raw, ready for the owner to finish.
Our custom batten door builds are sized to each specific opening, not cut from stock.
