Someone had patched the sidelights at this Black Rock property with plywood. It did the job of blocking the gaps but nothing else — the finish was rough, the proportions were wrong, and it read as exactly what it was: a quick fix that had stuck around for years.
The original entry was designed to have sidelights. Removing them and boarding over the opening had left the facade looking closed-off and unfinished. The homeowners wanted the entrance back to something close to the original intent — a proper door with glazing that let light into the entry hall.
The existing door frame presented its own complications. The opening wasn’t dimensioned for standard stock, and the previous patching work had to be fully stripped before anything new could be installed cleanly.
