We built a custom vertical batten pivot door in Vic Ash — a dense, stable Australian hardwood that holds its form well in coastal environments. The battens run floor to ceiling with a flat hardware panel integrated into the design. This keeps the face of the door clean while giving the smart lock something solid to mount into.
The pivot hardware is FritsJurgens System One — stainless steel throughout, fully adjustable, manufactured in the Netherlands. It’s purpose-built for corrosive environments. The concealed mechanism sits in the floor and header; there’s nothing exposed to the salt air that will rust or corrode. The door swings clean and controlled. Our pivot door installations in coastal suburbs need hardware that won’t degrade in the first five years, and System One is the right call for that.
Top and bottom brush seals were fitted across the full width of the door. They close out the gap at the floor and header — no draughts, no water ingress, and the seal holds whether the door is swinging or sitting closed. The hardware panel was laid out to receive the customer’s own digital smart lock, which was installed on the day.
The door was installed raw, ready for the owner’s finishing choice.
