This Sorrento property still had its original 1970s sliding door and flyscreen setup at the front entry. For a holiday property on the Mornington Peninsula that might have been charming once. By the time this job came to us, the sliding gear was worn out, the screen was torn, and the whole system offered almost no security.
The opening itself was large — wider than a standard hinged entry — and the surrounding structure had been built around the sliding system. Converting from sliding to hinged meant a significant reconfiguration of the opening, not just a door swap.
For a property this close to the coast, material selection matters. Salt air, humidity, and sun exposure accelerate deterioration in softwoods and poorly stabilised timbers. Whatever went in had to last.
