American Oak Pivot Doors in South Yarra

Both doors were built from American Oak lining boards — a dense, stable hardwood with a warm grain that reads well at scale. At 90mm thick, these doors have real presence. You feel the weight when they move.

The pivot hardware is FritsJurgens System M+. It’s a concealed pivot system — no visible hinges, no exposed mechanisms. The hydraulic damping gives controlled, soft-close operation even with doors this heavy. The pivot points are set into the floor and header, with structural back-blocking and reinforcement done before the doors went in.

We framed the openings with 180mm x 180mm American Oak posts. These aren’t structural necessities — they’re architectural. They create a defined threshold that gives the oversized doors the visual weight they need. The pull handles were custom fabricated in aluminium, rebated into the door face so they sit flush with the surface. Our pivot door installations at this scale require careful coordination between structural prep, hardware specs, and timber fabrication.
